Karnes and Raubal Advance at World University Games

CHENGDU, China- Josh Karnes for the United States and Ian Raubal for Switzerland had exceptional showings during the team finals and individual qualifications at the 2023 World University Games in Chengdu, China. Both Nittany Lions will compete in the all-around finals on Friday, Aug. 4.
 
Head coach Randy Jepson traveled with Karnes and the U.S. team to China and shared his thoughts on the first day, "It was a fantastic meet for our guys, I am so pleased they both made the all-around finals. Josh and Ian had excellent days and will move on to compete on Friday. The U.S. team did a great job but narrowly got edged out for the bronze medal by Korea."
 
The top 18 gymnasts move on to the all-around finals on Friday, with Josh placing 13th and Ian behind him in 14th.
 
The U.S. Senior National Team member scored a 13.933 on vault and a 13.633 on high bar for his top marks of the day. Karnes also went six-for-six on his routines on the first day of competition (Aug. 1). Raubal also went six-for-six with his best scores on vault, 13.966 and parallel bars, 13.733.
