UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team opens the 2023 fall season Sunday through Tuesday when the Nittany Lions travel to the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills. The season-opening event will mark the first of Mark Leon's tenure as head coach in Happy Valley.
Tee times are set for 10 a.m.-noon ET on Sunday and Monday, with final round tee times beginning at 9 a.m. ET on Tuesday.
Erin Hills has hosted numerous championship events including the 2017 U.S. Open and is rated as a Golf Digest top-10 public course in the United States. With a mix of traditional and modern elements, Erin Hills is routed over the kettle moraine areas left by glaciers, surrounded by wetlands and a river, with ground that consists of glacial till of varied composition of sand and small rock.
The season-opening tournament field pits Penn State against a strong field from across the nation that includes host Marquette, Augusta, California, Chattanooga, Cincinnati, Dayton, Nevada, Purdue, Texas A&M, UC Davis and Wisconsin.
The Nittany Lions will be represented by Patrick Sheehan, Jimmy Meyers, James Allen, Jake Griffin and Robby O'Regan. Sheehan, Allen and Griffin were named Big Ten Preseason Honorees earlier this week, while O'Regan will make his collegiate debut for the Blue & White.
Live scoring will be available via Spikemark throughout the event.
