UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State cross country sophomore Ryan Watson was awarded Big Ten Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors for his win at the Dolan Duals on September 1, the conference announced Wednesday.
Following a redshirt year last season, Watson took home the Dolan Duals win in his first cross country meet representing the Blue & White. The sophomore clocked a 17:48 PR over 6K, recording the seventh-fastest time in the history of the Dolan Duals. Watson performed well and aims to be a contributor on a men's team that has gained considerable experience and looks to excel in 2023.
The award is the first Big Ten Cross Country athlete of the week honor for the Nittany Lions since Colin Abert won two during the 2018 campaign.
