UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Freshman diver Abigail Ekstrom earns Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after her outstanding performance this past weekend at West Virginia.
Ekstrom was the winner of both the one and three-meter dives posting a score of 273.75 and 317.33 respectively.
The California native is honored with her second Big Ten weekly awards of the season after winning Diver of the Week for her performance against St. Bonaventure when the Nittany Lions swept the weekly awards the first week of the 2023-24 campaign.
Ekstrom is the first Nittany Lion freshman to win multiple Big Ten Diver of the Week awards, and just three weeks into the season, She will look to continue to capitalize on her early success.
The freshman has come off the blocks hot in the 2023-24 season placing in all three of the opening meets in the one and three-meter dives. She's been victorious in five of the six events she's competed in with a high score of 281.48 in the one-meter dive and 317.33 in the three-meter dive set this weekend against the Mountaineers.
Ekstrom joins senior Cat Stanford and fellow freshman Morgan Jenny as the only Big Ten award winners for the Nittany Lions in the 2023-24 season.
Penn State travels to South Bend this weekend for a tri-meet against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Pittsburgh Panthers Friday at 3 p.m.
