SYRACUSE, N.Y.- The No. 15/15 Penn State women's ice hockey team completed the series sweep of Syracuse with a 6-2 victory on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Julie Gough opened the scoring with her second goal of the series with 15 seconds remaining in the first period to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
- Syracuse then scored their first goal of the game from Sarah Thompson 1:44 into the second period to even the game at 1-1.
- The Nittany Lions answered with 10:58 remaining in the second frame off a goal by Mya Vaslet to give the Nittany Lions a 2-1 lead.
- Penn State then scored three unanswered goals off the sticks of Maddy Christian with 18:53 left in the third period, followed by Karly Garcia (16:41), and Tessa Janecke with 11:35 remaining in the frame to put Penn State ahead 5-1.
- Syracuse scored one more goal in the game with 5:00 minutes remaining to narrow the Penn State lead to 5-2.
- Stella Retrum sealed the game for the Nittany Lions with five seconds left as she scored her first collegiate goal and point to secure the 6-2 victory.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goalie Josie Bothun recorded 26 saves and allowed two goals to move her record to 3-6-1 on the year.
