HANOVER, N.H.- The Penn State women's ice hockey team rallied until the final seconds to take the 6-5 victory over Dartmouth on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Alyssa Machado opened the scoring in the first period with a goal off feeds by Leah Stecker and Mya Valset to put Penn State ahead 1-0 2:28 into the frame.
- Dartmouth countered a minute later as Laura Fuoco scored for the Big Green 3:56 into the period to even the score at 1-1.
- The Big Green took the lead with seven minutes left in the frame off a goal by Hamilton Doster to give Dartmouth a 2-1 advantage.
- Maggie MacEachern was able to capitalize before the end of the period as she found the back of the net with 3:13 left in the frame to make the score even at 2-2 after one period.
- Dartmouth came back to take the lead with 17:55 left in the second period as they scored short-handed off the stick of Sophie Robinson to give the Big Green a 3-2 lead.
- The Big Green then added a goal two minutes later off the stick of Tiffany Hill as she found the back of the net on the power-play to give Dartmouth a 4-2 lead with 15:36 remaining in the period.
- The Nittany Lions answered with 12:48 remaining in the period as Lyndie Lobdell would score on the power-play to cut the Dartmouth lead to 4-3.
- Katelyn Roberts opened the third period with a goal with 17:13 remaining in the frame to tie the game up at 4-4.
- Dartmouth countered with 13:38 remaining in the period off a goal by Lauren Messier to give the Big Green a 5-4 lead.
- Penn State answered back with 9:24 remaining in the frame as Tessa Janecke scored on the power-play to tie the game at 5-5.
- With 14 seconds remaining in the third, Mya Vaslet scored the game-winner off a rebound by the netminder to secure the 6-5 victory.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goalie Josie Bothun recorded 12 saves and allowed four goals while senior Annie Spring picked up her first collegiate win in net as she made 10 saves and allowed just one goal.
STATS AND NOTES
- Maggie MacEachern scored her 50th collegiate point with her goal.
- MacEachern and Janecke each tallied three points off one goal and two assists.
- Penn State picks up its first win against an ECAC opponent this year.
- Annie Spring earned her first collegiate victory in net.
