Women's Ice Hockey Tallies Two Hat-Tricks in 8-2 Win Over Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H.- Two hat-tricks scored by the Penn State women's ice hockey team propelled Penn State to a 8-2 victory over Dartmouth on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Penn State opened the game with three unanswered goals starting with a goal by Stella Retrum 9:20 into the frame to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
  • Two minutes later, Katelyn Roberts fired her first goal of the game 11:24 into the period to give Penn State a 2-0 lead.
  • Retrum then scored her second goal of the game on the power-play 12:56 into the frame to give the Nittany Lions a 3-0 lead.
  • After a goal by Dartmouth's Shae Messner 16:10 into the frame, Retrum captured her first collegiate hat-trick 17:36 into the period to put Penn State ahead 4-1.
  • Dartmouth opened the second period with a power-play goal by Lauren Messier 6:31 into the frame to cut the Penn State lead to 4-2.
  • Penn State then scored four unanswered goals including three in second period off the sticks of Tessa Janecke and Julie Gough 16:26, 16:38, and 18:30 into the period.
  • Janecke then secured her hat-trick 17:06 into the third period to claim the 8-2 victory for Penn State. 

GOALTENDERS

  • Senior goalie Annie Spring secured her second straight win in net tallying 26 saves and allowing just two goals. 

STATS AND NOTES

  • Stella Retrum collected her first collegiate hat-trick with three goals and two assists on the day.
  • Tessa Janecke scored her second career hat-trick and added four assists for a seven-point afternoon which is most by a Penn State player in a single game.
  • This is the second time this season Penn State has scored eight goals. 
  • The last time two players recorded hat-tricks in a single game took place on October 7, 2016 when Laura Bowman and Amy Petersen each scored three goals against Union.
