MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo.- The Penn State women's ice hockey team secured the opening game of the series at Lindenwood with a 4-2 victory on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Katelyn Roberts scored the opening goal for the Nittany Lions 8:44 into the first period off an assist by Maddy Christian to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
- In the closing minutes of the period, Lyndie Lobdell fired the Nittany Lions first power-play goal of the night, 15:17 into the frame to give Penn State a 2-0 lead.
- Lindenwood scored the lone goal of the second period as Morgan Netizke found the back of the net 3:10 into the frame to cut the Penn State lead to 2-1.
- Penn State opened the third period with a power-play goal off the stick of Julie Gough 5:57 into the frame to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-1.
- Alyssa Machado fired Penn State's second goal of the frame coming 17:19 into the period to give Penn State a 4-1 lead.
- Lindenwood closed the game with a goal with 43 seconds remaining in the period to result in the 4-2 Nittany Lion victory.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goalie Josie Bothun recorded 23 saves and allowed two goals to move her record to 4-6-1 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State went 2-2 on the power-play for the first time this season.
- Machado, Roberts, Gough, and Lobdell each picked up their third goals of the season.
- This is the third straight game Penn State has scored four or more goals.
- Penn State has won its last nine contests against Lindenwood.
