Women’s Ice Hockey Defeats Robert Morris in 2-0 Shutout Win

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team defeated Robert Morris 2-0 on Friday afternoon at Pegula Ice Arena. This is the Nittany Lion's first shutout win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • After a quiet first period, the Nittany Lions struck early in the second period, with a power-play goal coming off the stick of Brianna Brooks with assists by Tessa Janecke and Karley Garcia. This is Brooks' second goal of the season.
  • Tessa Janecke found the back of the net 7:12 into the third period to score her sixth goal of the season with an assist by Lexi Bedier.

GOALTENDERS

  • Josie Bothun was back between the pipes with a perfect performance against Robert Morris, making 16 saves. This is her first shutout of the 2023-2024 season.  
  • With the win, she improves to 7-7-1 on the year.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Senior forward Alyssa Machado made her 100th appearance as a Nittany Lion.
  • This is goaltender Josie Bothun's first shutout win of the season, her last being on Feb. 3, 2023 versus Syracuse.
  • Forward Tessa Janecke recorded two points, making this her sixth multi-point game so far this season.
  • Penn State is now 6-1-0 in CHA play remaining first in the conference.
  • Bothun now ties the CHA record for most shutouts by a goaltender with 19. 

UP NEXT

  • The Nittany Lions are back in Pegula on Saturday, Dec. 2, with the chance to sweep the Colonials. Puck drop is set for 1 p.m.
