UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team returns to Pegula Ice Arena to host Syracuse for a two-game series beginning on Friday, Jan. 19 at 6 p.m.

PARKING

  • Parking for Penn State women's ice hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will be available at the following locations beginning two hours prior to the start of each game: 
  • Stadium West, Jordan East, Porter North
  • No charge with a valid Penn State parking pass 
  • $5.50 prepaid through ParkMobile (season package available for $5 per game): ParkMobile Link
  • $10 day-of-event without a valid permit or prepayment (pay station or ParkMobile app – zone no. 95112) 
  • ParkMobile prepayment availability ends at 11:59 p.m. the night before each event. Events will not be selectable on the site after that time, and payment must then be made on site upon arrival to event parking staff (cash only).  

SCOUTING THE ORANGE

  • Syracuse is currently 4-18-2 overall and 1-8-1 in CHA play.
  • Leading the Orange on offense are Kate Holmes and Darci Johal who both have recorded eight goals and nine assists for 17 points this season.
  • In between the pipes is graduate student Allie Kelly who has a .899 save percentage with 794 saves this season.
  • The Orange are currently on a five-game losing streak with their last loss coming on Jan. 16 to St. Lawrence 6-3.

HISTORY AGAINST SYRACUSE

  • This will be the 49th meeting between Penn State and Syracuse. 
  • Syracuse currently leads the series 11-30-8 with their last meeting coming on October. 28-29, 2023, when Penn State defeated the Orange 4-2 and 6-2.

RACKING UP THE WEEKLY AWARDS

  • The Penn State women's ice hockey team secured two College Hockey America (CHA) weekly awards as announced by the conference on Monday. Tessa Janecke and Josie Bothun each captured weekly awards.
  • Janecke was named CHA Forward of the Week for the third time this season, as she recorded one goal and three assists in the series against RIT this past week. She also won 34-44 faceoffs over the series. Her goal was the eventual game-winner in the first game of the series as she gave Penn State its first goal of the night which propelled them to a 4-0 shutout victory.
  • Bothun was named CHA Goaltender of the Week for the fourth time this season after securing her second shutout victory of the season in Friday's 4-0 win over RIT. Her victory placed her at the top of the CHA record book for most shutouts in a career.
  • She was also named CHA Goaltender of the Week on Monday after registering a GAA 1.47 and tallying 47 saves over the series at RIT. On the season, Janecke has nine goals and 25 assists for 34 points.

LEADING THE NATION

  • Sophomore forward Tessa Janecke currently sits first in the nation in two categories.
  • The Orangeville, Ill. native sits first in face-off wins with 410 while also sitting tied for first in assists with 25.
  • On the year Janecke sits tied for seventh in the nation in points with 34 off nine goals and 25 assists.

BOTHUN BECOMES CHA RECORD HOLDER IN SHUTOUT WINS

  • Penn State's shutout victory over RIT on Jan. 12 was the second this season for senior goaltender Josie Bothun making 22 saves.
  • The shutout win placed her first in CHA history in most shutout victories in a career.
  • On the year, Bothun holds a record of 10-9-1, save percentage of .913, and GAA of 2.31.

APPROACHING 100 GAMES

  • Juniors Mya Vaslet and Karley Garcia played in their 93rd and 94th career games this past week at RIT.
  • They sit just five games away for 100.
  • There are currently eight Nittany Lions on the roster that have played in 100 games or more in their careers.
