UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State women's ice hockey team made a comeback with a 5-0 shutout win against Syracuse on Saturday afternoon in the series finale.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Lyndie Lobdell scored the first goal of the game 5:39 into the second period with an assist from Alva Johnsson. This is her seventh goal of the season.
- The second goal of the game came off the stick of Johnsson with an assist from Brianna Brooks with only 5:37 left in the second period. This is Johnsson's third goal this season.
- The Nittany Lions turned the heat up in the second period by scoring a third goal by Tessa Janecke with only 4:29 left. This was a power-play goal with assists from Kendall Butze and Katelyn Roberts.
- In the third period, Mya Vaslet scored goal number four for Penn State on the power play with assists from Roberts and Butze 12:59 into the period.
- With only 1:43 left in the third period, Butze scored her third goal of the season with an assist from Brooks, pushing Penn State to 5-0 for the game.
GOALTENDERS
- Sophomore Katie DeSa started for the Nittany Lions and had a total of 12 saves allowing for her first shutout win of her career.
- Allie Kelley stood in goal for the Orange and had 48 saves, making her save percentage 0.906.
STATS AND NOTES
- Sophomore Tessa Janecke scored her tenth goal of the season.
- The Nittany Lions had a total of 53 shots on goal while Syracuse only had 12.
- Penn State has won three out of the four matchups against Syracuse this season.
- Katie DeSa recorded her first career shutout win.
