UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team captured two College Hockey America monthly awards on Wednesday afternoon. Tessa Janecke and Josie Bothun each captured a monthly award honor for the month of December.
Janecke who was named Forward of the Month, tallied three goals and two assists in the month of December with one of the goals coming short-handed on Dec. 1 against Robert Morris. She also recorded 81 faceoff wins which led the team. On the year, Janecke tallies eight goals and 19 assists for 27 points. She also leads the nation in faceoff wins with 356. This is the Orangeville, Ill. second straight CHA Forward of the Month honor.
Bothun earns her second CHA Goaltender of the Month honor after going 3-1-0 in net while registering a GAA of 1.26 and save percentage of .954. She recorded a total of 104 saves which featured 16 in her first shutout victory of the season against Robert Morris on Dec. 1. On the year, Bothun registers a record of 9-8-1 with a GAA of 2.40 and save percentage of .910.
Penn State returns to action on Friday, January 5 when they begin a two-game series against Union. Puck-drop is set for 6 p.m.
