UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State Nittany Lions dropped a, 6-0, decision to No. 6 Wisconsin in Big Ten Conference action on Friday evening inside Pegula Ice Arena.
The Nittany Lions fall to 13-15-3 on the year and 5-13-3-0-0-2 in conference action with the loss while the Badgers move to 23-8-2 overall and 14-6-1- 1-2-1 in Big Ten play with the victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Badgers opened the scoring with a goal against the run of play as William Whitelaw collected the puck in the slot and fired past the glove of Nittany Lion senior net-minder Liam Souliere (Brampton, Ontario) for the 1-0 edge at 6:11 of the first period.
- Wisconsin doubled its lead midway through the opening frame with a powerplay tally as Cruz Lucius finished just inside the near post off a cross-ice feed from Ben Dexheimer for the 2-0 score at the 10:18 mark.
- The visitors tacked on two more in the first half of the middle stanza pushing the lead to 4-0 as Mathieu De St. Phalle lit the lamp from the left circle at 5:02 before Lucius netted his second man-advantage tally of the game at the 8:35 mark.
- De St. Phalle deposited his second goal of the game to push the lead to 5-0 at 6:19 of the third period.
- The Badgers kept coming as Carson Bantle sniped over the glove of Souliere from the low slot for the 6-0 margin at 8:54 of the final frame.
GOALTENDING
- Souliere drops to 10-11-1 on the year after making 24 saves over the opening 55:53 of game action before being relieved by sophomore Noah Grannan (Germantown, Wis.) who stopped the lone shot he faced over the final 4:07.
- Badger net-minder Kyle McClellan stopped all 27 shots he faced to secure his seventh shutout of the season while moving to 21-8-1 on the year.
NOTES
- Wisconsin held the 31-27 edge in shots on goal while going 2-for-6 on the powerplay. Penn State was 0-for-4 with the man-advantage.
- The Nittany Lions are now 0-7-0 when being outshot this season.
- Penn State was shut out for the fourth time this season which is tied for the most in a single-season since also being shut out four times during the 2019-20 season.

Both teams return to Pegula Ice Arena tomorrow night to close out the season series in the final home game of the season for the Nittany Lions. At the conclusion of the game Penn State will honor its 10-member senior class in a postgame ceremony.
