No. 12 Men's Lacrosse Rallies to Defeat No. 9/10 Yale 15-14 in Overtime

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 12 Penn State men's lacrosse team rallied from a seven-goal deficit at halftime to defeat No. 9/10 Yale 15-14 on Saturday.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Yale jumped out to a 4-0 lead with 9:35 remaining in the first quarter off a pair of goals by Patrick Hackler, and goals by David Anderson and Max Krevsky.
  • Penn State found one goal after off the stick of Brenfleck for his first of the year coming with 8:46 left in the quarter to cut the Yale lead to 4-1.
  • The Bulldogs closed the quarter with two goals scored by Anderson and Krevsky to take a 6-1 lead after one quarter.
  • Yale opened the second quarter with a pair of goals from Krevsky and Matt Brandau to take a 8-1 lead with 9:32 left in the half.
  • Penn State countered with an unassisted goal by TJ Malone with 6:04 remaining to cut the Yale lead to 8-2.
  • Yale closed out the half with goal off from Peter Moynihan with 1:59 to make the score 9-2 in favor of Bulldogs.
  • Penn State came out firing in the third quarter scoring five unanswered goals including two by Malone and goals by Ethan Long, Will Peden, and Mac Costin to cut the Yale lead to 9-7 with 8:22 left in the quarter.
  • After a Yale goal by Anderson made the score 10-7, Penn State added another goal with 6:56 left off the stick of Matt Traynor to make the score 10-8 Yale.
  • The Bulldogs then added three unanswered goals off the sticks of Krevsky and two by Anderson to increase their lead to 13-8.
  • The Nittany Lions closed the quarter with a goal from Malone to narrow the Yale lead to 13-9.
  • Penn State started the fourth quarter with a pair of goals by Mac Costin and Ethan Long to shrink the Yale lead to 13-11 with 12:55 left in the fourth quarter.
  • Yale added one more goal in the quarter off the stick of Carson Kuhl with 11:30 remaining to take a 14-11 lead.
  • Penn rallied a comeback with three unanswered goals off the sticks of Malone, Traynor, and Mac Costin to send the game into overtime with the score tied at 14.
  • With 59 seconds remaining in the first overtime period, Jake Morin scored the game-winner to complete the 15-14 comeback victory. 

GOALTENDER

  • Junior Jack Fracyon picked up his fourth straight win in net making 17 saves to improve his record to 4-1 on the year.

STATS AND NOTES

  • TJ Malone tallied a career-high nine points off five goals and four assists.
  • This is the largest comeback Penn State has had this season coming back from seven goals down at halftime.
  • Penn State picks up their second straight victory against Yale.
