Rutherford Intercollegiate Day 1 Results
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Penn State men's golf team leads a tight team race by two strokes following the first two rounds of the 47th-annual Rutherford Intercollegiate at the Penn State Blue Course on a chilly and windy Saturday.
The Nittany Lions hold down first place after carding a 12-over, 580, and have a two-stroke lead on second-place UConn and six-stroke lead on third-place Valparaiso in the 14-team field. Penn State trailed the Huskies by three strokes following the first round. Penn State shot a 9-over, 293, as a team through high winds in the first round before rebounding nicely with a 3-over, 287, in the second round.
Patrick Sheehan and Jake Griffin both sit tied for fourth at 1-over, 143. Sheehan fired a 1-under, 70, for Penn State's best score in the first round before carding a 2-over, 73, in the second round. Griffin shot an even 71 in the opening round and a 1-over, 72, in the second round.
Jimmy Meyers is the third Nittany Lion in the top 10 through the first two rounds, sitting tied for seventh at 2-over, 144. He recorded a 2-over, 73, in the morning round and an even 71 in the afternoon.
Billy Pabst Jr. carded an 8-over, 79, in the opening round, but rebounded strongly with an even 71 in the second round to move up 27 spots on the leaderboard and into a tie for 28th place at 8-over, 150.
Morgan Lofland is tied for 57th through the opening two rounds at 13-over, 155. He shot an 8-over, 79, in the first round and a 5-over, 76, in the second.
Four Nittany Lions are playing as individuals, with James Allen leading that group at 7-over, 149, and tied for 23rd. Zach Smith follows in a tie for 27th place at 8-over, 150. Jud Langille is tied for 41st at 10-over, 152. Robby O'Regan is tied for 69th at 17-over, 159.
The 47th-annual Rutherford Intercollegiate concludes Sunday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the third and final round. Live scoring will continue to be available via GolfStat.
