Nittany Lions open 2025 season against Missouri

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State baseball’s weekend schedule for the inaugural Puerto Rico Challenge has been announced. The Nittany Lions will travel to Puerto Rico to open the 2025 season. All three of Penn State’s games will be played at Estadio Yldefonso Solá Morales in Caguas, Puerto Rico. The challenge is produced by JoGi Sports and MB Sports.

Penn State will take on Missouri, to open the weekend, on Friday, February 14 at 5 p.m. The Nittany Lions have played one previous game against Missouri, in 1952. The Tigers won 23 games in 2024, including nine in SEC play.

The Nittany Lions battle Stetson on Saturday, February 15 at 11 a.m. in the first ever meeting between the schools. The Hatters went 41-22 in 2024, including 20-10 in the Atlantic Sun, and played in the Tallahassee Regional.

Penn State concludes the tournament against UConn on Sunday, February 16 at 2 p.m. PSU is 1-3 all-time against UConn and last played against the Huskies in 2008. UConn went 35-26 last season with a 17-4 mark in Big East play. The Huskies won the Norman Regional and reached the Super Regional in Tallahassee.

All game times are local time in Puerto Rico and line up with Eastern time.

In 2024, Penn State went 29-24 overall and 12-12 in Big Ten play in its first season under head coach Mike Gambino. The 29 wins are Penn State’s most under a first-year head coach.
 
Penn State posted its first winning record in the regular season since 2016 (28-27) and maintained a .500 or better mark from the entire season for the first time since 2011 (32-22). The Blue and White notched its best record in Big Ten play since going 12-12 in 2016.
 
Penn State reached the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game for the first time since 2000 and won three-straight games to open the Big Ten Tournament for the first time in program history.
