ROSEMONT, Ill. – Penn State women’s basketball head coach Carolyn Kieger, as well as senior guard Jayla Oden and graduate guard Alli Campbell met with members of local and national media at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center Wednesday, joining the additional 17 Big Ten Conference member institutions at the 2024 B1G Women’s Basketball Media Day.
Coach Kieger and her veteran returning student-athletes spoke with conference and national media, including representatives from the Big Ten Conference, NCAA, NBC, CBS, Big Ten Network and Sirius XM radio. Kieger, Campbell and Oden discussed the changing landscape of intercollegiate athletics, the latest on Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, the growth of women’s basketball at every level of the game and the expansion of the Big Ten Conference. The trio of Penn State representatives also previewed the 2024-25 campaign which kicks off in just over one month. The Lady Lions tip off their 61st varsity season against the in-state rival Bucknell Bison on Monday, November 4, inside the Bryce Jordan Center.
The Blue & White return following a 22-13 campaign a year ago that featured an eight-win improvement from the prior season. Penn State made its first national postseason appearance since 2018 in the process, advancing to the semifinals of the inaugural NCAA Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament. Under the direction of PSU’s sixth-year head coach in Kieger, the Lady Lions have improved their win total in each of her first six campaigns at the helm. PSU returns a quartet of student-athletes from last year’s roster, including Campbell and Oden, while welcoming nine new players to the squad with five true freshman and four transfer athletes.
