STORRS, Conn. - The No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team fell to No. 9/9 UConn 3-2 in the opening game of the series on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first period, the Nittany Lions scored the opening goal of the game with 4:45 remaining in the second period off a goal by Stella Retrum. Tessa Janecke and Katelyn Roberts added an assist on the goal.
- Less than a minute in the third period, Mya Vaslet would score the Nittany Lions second goal of the game to put them ahead 2-0 with 19:04 left in regulation. Assists would be granted to Brianna Brooks and Taya MacDonald.
- UConn then would tally three unanswered goals off the sticks of Brianna Ware (13:51), Claire Murdoch (6:39), and Brooke Campbell (3:50) to secure the 3-2 victory for the Huskies.
GOALTENDERS
- Goalie Katie DeSa recorded 16 saves on 19 shots attempted as her record dropped to 1-2-0 on the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stella Retrum and Mya Vaslet each recorded their first goals of the season.
- The Nittany Lions dominated the faceoff circle winning 33-21 faceoffs.
