Women Fall to Princeton and Virginia Tech at Home

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa - The Nittany Lions welcomed the Princeton Tigers and  Virginia Tech Hokies to McCoy Natatorium on Saturday. Following a hard fought battle,  Penn State lost each of its matchups, falling 176.50-121.50 to Princeton and 216-84 against Virginia Tech. 

Penn State falls to 4-10 all-time against the Hokies, and 14-5 to the Tigers. The Blue and White are now 2-5 on the season. 

Top Swims

Junior Morgan Moore put the Nittany Lions on the board with a second place finish in the 1000 Free, posting a 9:59.06 in her first event of the day. 

Junior Catherine Meisner got the first gold of the day with a first place finish in the 200 Free with a final time of 1:46.57. Meisner added a third place finish in the 100 Free with a 50.12. 

Senior Margaret Markvardt touched first in the 200 IM with a 1:59.76 finish, and recorded a third place finish in the 100 Fly with a final time of 53.26. The Estonia native added a second place finish in the 200 Fly with a 53.29. 

Freshman Audrey Cohen added a third place finish in the 100 Breast with a 1:03.64. 

Relays

The Blue and White started off the day in the 200 Medley relay, with strong contributions from Ellie Brandbergh, Margaret Markvardt, Maura Fluehr and Catherine Meisner, the relay tallied a tight third place finish. 

Diving

Sophomore Abbey Ekstrom finished second in the three meter competition with a 291.10, a slim .15 margin behind the first place finisher. 

Grace Brammer added a silver finish in the one meter with a 280.90.

Penn State returns to competition with another home meet weekend Friday, Jan. 31 against Army, and Saturday Feb. 1 against West Virginia.
