BOSTON – The Atlantic Hockey Association named Penn State women’s ice hockey goaltender Katie DeSa Goaltender of the Month on Friday afternoon. The award is DeSa’s first monthly honor of the season and second of her career. 

DeSa captured a pair of wins against Mercyhurst in the month of December. She allowed just two goals in each contest while she made 73 total saves. In DeSa’s win against the Lakers on December 6, she tallied 35 saves. During the second game of the series, the Pawcatuck, Conn. native registered a season-high 38 saves, which aided in the Nittany Lions 3-2 victory. 

This season, DeSa holds a record of 12-4-0 which sits third in the nation while having a goals-against average of 1.44, which ranks seventh nationally. In conference play, DeSa leads the AHA with a 1.28 goals-against average and .945 save percentage in eight conference games. 

Penn State returns to action on Friday, January 3 when they travel to Minnesota for the East West Classic. The puck drops at 2 p.m. ET against Bemidji State.
