HISTORY

  • Penn State is facing RIT for the 63rd and 64th times in program history.
  • The Nittany Lions currently lead the series 38-16-8.
  • The last time the two teams faced each other was on February 11, 2025 where Penn State defeated RIT 3-2. 

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • RIT enters the series with an 15-13-4, overall record and a 8-8-2 record in AHA play
  • They are coming off a pair of wins against Lindenwood on February 7-8  by scores of 4-1 and 4-3.
  • Leading their offense is Addie Alvarez who tallies 30 points on six goals and 24 assists.
  • In net stands Sarah Coe who tallies a record of 10-9-2, GAA of 2.30, and save percentage of .921.

DESA NAMED SEMIFINALIST FOR HCA GOALIE OF THE YEAR

  • The Hockey Commissioners Association named Penn State women’s ice hockey junior goaltender Katie DeSa a semifinalist for the Goalie of the Year award. This is DeSa’s first time as a semifinalist in her career. 
  • This season, DeSa has tallied a record of 23-5-0, goals against average of 1.42, and save percentage of .934. She’s also picked up eight shutout wins. She’s earned seven Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) Goaltender of the Week honors this season and two AHA Goaltender of the Month honors. 
  • She currently leads the AHA in GAA, shutouts, and save percentage. The Pawcatuck, Conn. native, also sits second in the nation in wins, fourth in GAA, and eighth in save percentage. DeSa sits second in program history for most wins by a goalie in a single season. 
  • Her eight shutout wins on the year, is the second most in a single season in program history. She is the only Nittany Lion goaltender in program history to be named a semifinalist for the award. 

 

 

 

REGULAR SEASON CHAMPS

  • For the third straight year, the Nittany Lions became AHA Regular Season champions following their 4-3 overtime win against Mercyhurst.
  • It's the fourth Regular Season Championship for the women's ice hockey program and all under the direction of head coach Jeff Kampersal. 

WHO IS ON THE POWER-PLAY?

  • Penn State tallied their eighth short-handed goal of the year in Saturday's game against Mercyhurst on February 8. 
  • Maddy Christian potted the short-handed goal for her third of the season. 
  • Christian is tied for second all-time in program history in most short-handed goals in a single season. 
  • She sits tied for first in the nation in short-handed goals this season.
  • Meanwhile, Penn State leads the entire nation in short-handed goals with eight.
