ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The No. 9 Penn State women’s ice hockey team (27-5-1, 18-1-0 AHA), downed RIT (15-14-4, 8-9-2 AHA) 4-1 in the opening game of the final regular season series on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a goal by Grace Outwater as she fired her shot from the slot off a feed by Stella Retrum to put Penn State ahead 1-0 with 5:35 left in the opening frame.
- Lyndie Lobdell added to the Penn State lead in the second period as she ripped a goal in front of the RIT netminder off a feed by Retrum to put Penn State ahead 2-0 with 11:36 left in the frame.
- Later in the frame, Nicole Hall dragged the puck through center ice into the RIT defensive zone and banked a goal going top shelf to put Penn State ahead 3-0 with 5:38 left in the second period.
- With 12:55 in the third, RIT scored on the power-play off the stick as Jordyn Bear scored on a backhanded shot to narrow the Penn State lead to 3-1.
- In the closing minute of the third period, Tiffany Hill tipped the puck over the goalie into the net to secure the 4-1 victory over RIT.
GOALTENDERS
- Lauren Barbro tallied 17 saves on 18 shots attempted. Her record improves to 4-0-1 on the year. This is the fourth time this season Barbro has allowed only one goal in a game.
- RIT goaltender Sarah Coe stopped 36 shots on 40 attempts. Her record drops to 10-9-2 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State’s 18 conference wins is the most in Atlantic Hockey America/College Hockey America conference history.
- The previous record holder was Mercyhust back in the 2012-13 season when they won 17 league games.
- Hill scored her first goal as a Nittany Lion.
- The Nittany Lions dominated the faceoff circle, winning 30 faceoffs out of 46.
- Retrum tallied her third multi-assist game of her career with a pair on the day.
- Janecke recorded her 148th career point with an assist in the game.
- Penn State outshot the Tigers 40-18.
- The Nittany Lions have defeated the Tigers in the last five straight games.

- Penn State returns to action on Saturday, February 15 when they look for the final regular season sweep against RIT. The puck drops at 2 p.m.
