Men's Tennis Defeats St. Francis, Drexel in Doubleheader

The Nittany Lions claim their 10th win of the season

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team took down St. Francis, 6-1, and Drexel, 6-1, on Saturday,  Feb. 15 at the Indoor Tennis Center. 

 

Freshman duo Marcus Schoeman and Reiya Hattori went 4-0 on the day, collecting wins in every doubles and singles match they played.  

 

DOUBLES VS. ST. FRANCIS 

At the top spot Charl Morgan and David Lindsay dropped their match, 6-4, to Tyler Nguyen and Alan Gonzalez. Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio partnered up on Court 3, but fell 6-2 to Matt Kozar and Kevin Titus Suresh. 

Although the doubles point had already been claimed by St. Francis, the match on court two played out, resulting in a 7-6(2) win for Schoeman and Hattori over Kevin Kruzel and Patrick Reese. 

 

SINGLES VS. ST FRANCIS 

Loren Byers played at first singles, defeating Gonzalez in a swift 6-1, 6-3 match. 

At the second spot, Morgan put on an impressive match, defeating Titus Suresh, 6-1, 6-0. 

Schoeman followed on the third court, also defeating his opponent, Gregory Troyan, 6-1, 6-0. 

Hattori defeated Kruzel in a 6-2, 6-3 matchup on Court 4. 

Lindsay played in at the fifth spot, defeating Reese in a strong 6-4, 7-5 match. 

Nolan Ranger stepped in at sixth singles, defeating Kozar, 6-2, 6-2. 

 

 

DOUBLES VS. DREXEL 

Morgan and Lindsay remained at the top spot, taking down Alex De Souza and Roman Lafond 6-3.  

On Court 3, Schoeman and Hattori defeated Antonio Franquis and Egor Kirakosov 6-2. 

Byers and Bossem’s match went unfinished, with the duo tied 4-4 with Will Burridge and Hussein El Tawil. 

 

SINGLES VS. DREXEL 

Byers went into a third set battle at first singles, ultimately coming out on top over De Souza in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 match. 

At the second spot, Morgan took down El Tawil, 6-4, 6-4. 

Schoeman pulled through on Court 4 and took the lead against Kirkasov, ultimately winning 7-5, 6-1. 

On Court 5, Hattori defeated Lafond in a 6-3, 7-5 match. 

Lindsay took his match into a tiebreak at the sixth spot, ultimately defeating Josue Guzman 6-4, 3-6, 10-3. 

Bossem dropped his match at third singles 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 to Burrdige.  

 

UP NEXT 

The squad will host Georgetown tomorrow, Sunday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Indoor Tennis Center to close out the weekend.
