UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 9 Penn State women’s ice hockey team (28-5-1, 19-1-0 AHA), capped the 2024-25 regular season with a 2-1 overtime win over RIT (15-15-4, 8-10-2 AHA) on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a goal by Alyssa Machado as she punched in a goal in front of the goalie with 18:05 left in the first period.
- RIT responded with a goal by Kyla Bear with 16:20 left in the frame to tie the game up at 1-1.
- After two scoreless periods, Leah Stecker banked the game-winner in overtime as she went top shelf with 2:48 left in the overtime period to win the game 2-1.
GOALTENDERS
- Katie DeSa tallied 19 saves on 20 shots attempted. Her record improves to 24-5-0 on the year.
- RIT goaltender Sarah Coe stopped 46 shots on 48 attempts. Her record drops to 10-10-2 on the year.
STATS AND NOTES
- Penn State hit their 28th win of the season, which is the most in program history.
- This Penn State’s fourth overtime win this season.
- The Nittany Lions dominated the faceoff circle, winning 32 faceoffs out of 48.
- Penn State outshot the Tigers 48-20.
- The Nittany Lions have defeated the Tigers in the last six straight games.
- Machado scored her first goal since January 3, 2025, which came against Bemidji State.
- With the win, Penn State officially has clinched a first-round bye into the AHA Tournament.
