UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State men’s tennis team defeated Toledo, 4-0, and Mount St. Mary’s, 7-0, in Sunday’s doubleheader. David Lindsay recorded a perfect 6-0, 6-0 match against Mount St. Mary’s at fourth singles.
TOLEDO
Doubles
On Court 2, Sam Bossem and Loren Byers shut out Matias Olivero and Lucas Britez, 6-0.
At the third spot, Reiya Hattori and Marcus Schoeman clinched the doubles point for Penn State, after defeating Cole Cozens and Hanamichi Carvajal, 6-3.
Charl Morgan and David Lindsay led 4-3 on Court 1 against Poonthong Komolpisut and Joshuack Mackey before the match went unfinished.
Singles
At the top spot, Byers defeated Carvajal in a quick 6-3, 6-2 match.
Schoeman played in at fourth singles, winning a strong 6-3, 6-2 match against Britez.
Morgan’s 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(0) battle against Komolpisut on Court 2 clinched the match for Penn State.
Bossem was down on the third court 6-2, 6(7)-7, 1-3 against Olivero, Hattori was up on Mackey 6-0, 4-1 on Court 5, and Lindsay was leading 6-1, 0-1 over Charlie Snow at the sixth spot when all three matches went unfinished.
MOUNT ST. MARY’S
Doubles
Nittany Lion duo Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio played on the third court, defeating Ian Ramirez and Nate Helms in a quick 6-1 match.
Morgan and Lindsay partnered up to take on Alexi Roy and Akarsh Gaonkar on Court 1, ultimately winning 6-3 and clinching the doubles point for Penn State.
At second doubles, Hattori and Schoeman trailed 5-2 to Filippos Zachiotis and Lucas Evans when the match went unfinished.
Singles
At first singles, Byers played a powerful 6-3, 6-0 match, defeating Akarsh.
On Court 2, Schoeman won against Zachiotis 6-3, 6-4.
A strong performance by Hattori gave him the 6-1, 6-4 victory over Roy.
On the fourth court, Lindsay put on an impressive show, defeating Evans in a 6-0, 6-0 sweep.
At fifth singles, Nolan Ranger competed an excellent 6-1, 6-1 match against Aaron Thompson.
On Court 6, Denys Forgaci played a fantastic match, defeating Nate Helms 6-0, 6-1.
UP NEXT
The Nittany Lions will continue their home stretch with a doubleheader slated for Saturday, Feb. 15 against Saint Francis at 9:30 a.m. and Drexel at 2:30 p.m. The Blue and White will close out the weekend on Sunday Feb. 16 with a match against Georgetown at 1 p.m. All three matches will be held at the Indoor Tennis Center.
