No. 7/8 Women’s Ice Hockey Concludes Historic Season at the NCAA Regional Semifinal

The Nittany Lions dropped to St. Lawrence, 4-1, on Thursday night in Columbus, Ohio at the OSU Ice Rink

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 7/8 Penn State women’s ice hockey team (31-6-1, 19-1-0 AHA) fell in a 4-1 decision to No. 8/7 St. Lawrence (22-11-5, 13-6-1 ECAC) in the Regional Semifinal in Columbus, Ohio at the OSU Ice Rink.  

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • St. Lawrence scored three times in the first period. Abby Hustler scored at the 5:41 mark to open the scoring with assists from Abby Hehl and Anna Segedi. 
  • Kennedy Wilson made it 2-0 for the Saints with an unassisted goal 15 seconds later. 
  • Huster scored her second goal on the power play with 1:17 remaining in the first period. Sarah Marchand and Segedi assisted on the play. 
  • Kristina Bahl scored on an empty net for St. Lawrence with 41 seconds left in the final frame. 

GOALTENDERS 

  • Penn State’s Katie DeSa dropped to 27-6-0. She saved 23 shots during the contest. 
  • For St. Lawrence, Emma-Sofie Nordström improved her record to 18-11-5. She saved 32 of the 33 shots she faced. 

STATS AND NOTES 

  • The Nittany Lions conclude the 2024-25 campaign with 31 victories, the most in program history. The team’s 19 AHA wins set a conference single-season record. 
  • Butze scored her 10th career goal, fourth of the season.  
  • With an assist on Butze’s goal, Janecke tied the school record for points in a single season with 53. The Top 10 Patty Kazmaier Award Finalist finished her season with 24 goals and 29 assists. 
  • Penn State tallied 33 shots on goal to 27 for St. Lawrence.
