ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Penn State Women’s Tennis (11-3, 2-2 B1G) dropped a 4-1 contest to No. 6 Michigan (11-3, 4-0 B1G) on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolverines won the doubles point. Jordina Cegarra and Patricia Grigoras fell to No. 48 Reese Miller and Julia Fliegner, 6-2, on court two. At the top spot, Olivia Dorner and Maiko Uchijima came up short against No. 27 Jessica Bernales and Piper Charney, 6-3.
Yvonne Zuffova and Jelena Vico trailed 5-4 to Emily Sartz-Lunde and Bayley Sheinin on court three before the match went unfinished.
Zuffova earned a dominant singles victory on court five over Bernales, 6-1, 6-1.
Dorner battled Fliegner, ranked No. 2 in the country, to a third set on court one. She trailed 4-2 in the final set before the match went unfinished. At court six, Maria Daciana Ciubotaru and Sheinin were in a tight match, where Sheinin led 3-1 in the third set, when it was stopped.
Freshmen Grigoras, playing on court three, and Vico, playing on court four, dropped singles matches to ranked opponents. Grigoras fell to No. 96 Sartz-Lunde, 6-3, 7-5 while Vico dropped to No. 80 Miller, 6-4, 6-2. No. 25 Charney clinched the match for the Wolverines with a 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 win against Uchijima.
The Nittany Lions will travel to Rutgers on Saturday, March 22 and Maryland the next day. Both matches are scheduled to begin at noon.
