Mohammed Yasseen Earns First All-America Honor as NCAA Championships Hit Midway Point

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.-Penn State freshman Mohammed Yasseen became an All-American for the first time, placing fifth at his first NCAA tournament in Penn State’s Multi-Sport Building. The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams qualified eight fencers for the 2025 NCAA National Championships. The women begin competition tomorrow.

Yasseen recorded 14/22 wins to place fifth. Tingwei Xu finished the day in 10th place.

Lone foil fencer Arwen Borowiak placed 10th after winning 13/23 matches.

In Sabre, Neil Lilov finished one place out of earning All-America status, placing ninth, just off the podium. Kamar Skeete placed 22nd.

The Nittany Lions sit in sixth place with women’s competition set to begin tomorrow.

The women's team, with three qualifiers, will begin their NCAA run on Saturday at 9 a.m. with rounds 1-3 of epee. Women's foil will begin at 11 a.m. with sabre to conclude the day at 1:30 p.m. Rounds four and five will start Sunday morning at 9 a.m. with semifinals and finals at 1:30 p.m.
