ROSEMONT, Ill. – Senior captain Simon Mack (Brockville, Ontario) was tabbed the B1G Third Star of the Week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning. Mack helped No. 15 Penn State to a series split over No. 2 Minnesota to close out the regular season this past weekend.
The Nittany Lions have now had a weekly award winner for six-straight weeks and eight since the New Year with 11 overall in 2024-25. The 11 weekly awards are the most for the Nittany Lions since garnering 13 during the 2018-19 season.
Mack secures his third weekly accolade after also being named Third Star on October 8 and Second Star on February 18. He joins Arsenii Sergeev (Jan. 7, Feb. 11 & Feb. 25) as three-time honorees this season while Reese Laubach (Jan. 28 & Feb. 11) and Aiden Fink (Nov. 26 & Feb. 4) have each been honored twice and John Seifarth (Dec. 3) has been recognized once.
Mack was clutch for Penn State in the series against the Gophers scoring the game-winning goal in overtime on Friday before adding a second goal the following night. The senior was a +2 for the weekend while tallying four blocked shots between the two games.
Mack moved into seventh on the Penn State all-time goals list for defensemen with 11 now in his career while his 61 career points are the fourth-most by a Nittany Lion blueliner all-time.
Mack's 26 points this season are good for second in the Big Ten among defensemen and tied for eighth in the nation while his +20 rating is tied for fourth in the Big Ten and sixth nationally for d-men. His 26 points are also tied for the fifth-most for a defenseman in a single-season at Penn State.
The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 10-2-2 over their last 14 games securing 28-of-36 Big Ten points during that stretch to finish the season fifth in the league. No. 5 Penn State will travel to fourth-seeded Michigan this weekend for a best-of-three Big Ten Quarterfinal series.
