PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame announced their 2025 Inductees, including former Penn State diver Mary Ellen Clark. Clark was named to the class alongside 15 other athletes who have contributed to the legacy of Philadelphia sports.
"Thank you for this,” Clark told the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame. “It is a great honor to be among this class of Inductees."
Clark is a 1985 graduate of Penn State who competed under former head coach Bob Goldberg. As a freshman, she won both the 1 and 3-meter springboard at the Eastern Association Championship and went on to qualify for National Championships later that season. During her senior year, Clark served as a team captain for the Nittany Lions.
After graduation, Clark went on to win the National Championship in platform diving in both 1987 and 1992. She also won bronze in the 1992 and 1996 summer Olympics in 10-meter platform diving. Clark was a member of the United States Pan American Team three times, winning seven U.S. titles. She shined at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta where she was a three-time National Championship winner on platform, 1-meter, and 3-meter springboards.
Alongside her newest honor as a Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Clark was voted one of the “Top 10 Women Athletes in America of 1996” by the U.S. Olympic Committee.
Clark currently serves as the head diving coach for Bryant University in Rhode Island. She also coached at other NCAA institutions, including Amherst College, Mount Holyoke College, and Wellesley College.
The induction ceremony for the 2025 class is set to take place on November 6, 2025, in South Philadelphia. Clark will join more than 300 individuals who have shaped the history of sport in Philadelphia.
