UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - No. 10 Penn State men's lacrosse travels for third consecutive top 25 matchup at no 13. Michigan on Sunday, April 6. This will also be the Nittany Lions third straight nationally televised contest, with the game set to be aired on the Big Ten Network with a noon start time.

HISTORY

  • Penn State owns the all-time series by a 11-4 margin with the first meeting taking place in 2012.
  • The Wolverines took the most recent game in the 2024 Big Ten Championship, dowing PSU 16-4.
  • This will be only the fourth meeting with both teams ranked in the top 25, with all contests coming in 2023-24.

SCOUTING MICHIGAN

  • After having a tough start to the season, Michigan has claimed a 2-0 emergence in conference play.
  • The Wolverines statement win was a 11-10 triple overtime victory at no. 1 at the time Maryland. They most recently defeated Johns Hopkins.
  • Aiden Mulholand leads the team in goals with 17 while Ryan Cohen leads them in points with 21 and leads the B1G in assists per game (2.10).
  • Last season, Michigan finished the 2024 campaign 10-7, 2-3 in conference play.
  • The Wolverines won the Big Ten Tournament Championship for the second consecutive season with their win over PSU. Their season concluded with a loss to Denver in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

LAST TIME VS. UM

  • The Wolverines downed the Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Tournament Championship in 2024, 16-4.
  • PSU took the regular season win 14-8 in the game played in Happy Valley on April 13. TJ Malone posted five goals, Kyle Lehman had three, Matt Traynor had two and Mac Costin was the other multi-goal scorer with two goals.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State fell to no. 2 Maryland on Saturday, March 29 in its second consecutive top 10 matchup. The final score of the contest was 13-8.
  • Despite scoring the first goal of the day off the stick of Hunter Aquino, Maryland went on several scoring runs to build a lead that the Nittany Lions could not come back from.
  • There were three multiple goal scorers for PSU: Aquino, Kyle Lehman and Matt Traynor all had two goals. Traynor also added an assist to lead Penn State in points with three.
  • Colby Baldwin had another dominant day at the faceoff dot, going 15-of-22, his fifth game with 15-plus faceoff wins this season.
  • Ryan O’Connor matched his career best four ground balls which is a new best mark in conference games.
  • Kyle Aldridge was strong defensively, posting two caused turnovers and two ground balls. Will Costin also collected three ground balls.
  • PSU outshot UMD 32-26. The Nittany Lions also cleared 17-of-18 attempts while the Terps went 17-of-21.

LIONS IN THE RANKS

  • Matt Traynor sits at the top of the B1G in points per game (4.43) and is second in goals per game (2.71).
  • Kevin Parnham ranks 12th across the nation in caused turnovers per game (1.89) which is second in the Big Ten.
  • Colby Baldwin has the 13th-best face-off winning percentage (.600) in the country, leading his team to the 14th-best faceoff win percentage. He is 20th in ground balls per game (6.11).
  • Hunter Aquinois second in the conference in assists per game (1.67) and fourth in shot percentage (394) and points per game (3.11).
  • As a team, PSU leads the conference in several categories including points per game (21.67), man-up offense (.448) and assists per game (8.44).

B1G HONORS

  • Jack Fracyon was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week following a strong performance against Villanova. He tallied 10 saves on 15 shot attempts. He also allowed just five goals, the third lowest number of goals allowed in his career.
  • Hunter Aquino earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his first career hat-trick and two assists to total five points against no. 8 Princeton.
  • Hunter Aquino notched his second Big Ten weekly honor, being tabbed the Big Ten Freshman of the Week this week (3/4) after a seven-point (two goals, five assists) performance against Yale.
  • Colby Balwin was named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week this week (3/4) following a dominant 17-of-26 performance at the face-off x against Yale while adding a goal and an assist.
  • Aquino earned his fourth Big Ten Freshman of the Week nod (4/1) after posting two goals on two shots at no. 2 Maryland. He has garnered the most weekly awards of any player in the conference and is one award shy of matching the PSU program record for B1G Freshman of the Week nods set by Mac O’Keefe in 2017.
