UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State softball program and head coach Clarisa Crowell welcomed a pair of incoming transfer athletes to the Nittany Lion roster ahead of the 2025-26 academic year on Wednesday afternoon, with rising-senior infielder Cara Bohner and rising junior right-handed pitcher McKenna Young slated to join the Blue & White this fall.
“I am thrilled to announce the commitment of McKenna Young and Cara Bohner to our program, and we are excited for their arrival to campus this fall,” Crowell said. “McKenna is a standout pitcher coming to us from South Dakota, and she will be an exceptional addition to our pitching staff. Cara, a Pennsylvania native, will be joining our program from Towson, and she is going to be a great asset to our middle infield. McKenna and Cara will have a positive impact on our program, and they will strive for excellence on the field, in the classroom, and be great representatives of Penn State Softball. Please help me to welcome our newest Penn Staters.”
Penn State welcomes its pair of veteran transfers to Happy Valley while boasting one of the most impressive track records of transfer athlete development in college softball. Nittany Lion transfers are responsible for eight combined All-Big Ten Conference and NFCA All-Region accolades while experiencing a 15 percentage point increase in batting average and a year-over-year 94 percent increase in total home runs. PSU transfer pitchers have experienced a 50 percent increase in pitching victories, 53 percent increase in innings pitched and 68 percent increase in pitching appearances following their arrival in Happy Valley. Bohner and Young arrive at Penn State following decorated playing careers at their prior institutions, with Bohner coming off three-straight campaigns batting above .280 at Towson, while Young joins the Blue & White fresh off a Second Team All-Summit League campaign with South Dakota.
