UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State women’s tennis will send three student-athletes to Chapel Hill, North Carolina for the ITA East Sectional from November 6-9. Brianna Baldi and Maiko Uchijima will compete in singles while Uchijima will pair with Olivia Dorner in doubles.
On the singles side, Baldi will take on Virginia Tech’s Ozlem Uslu at 10 a.m. in the round of 32. Uchijima will face Duke’s Shavit Kimchi at 11:15 a.m. For doubles, Dorner and Uchijima will battle Duke’s Liv Hovde and Kimchi at 1:45 p.m. in the round of 16.
In the team’s last outing at the ITA Northeast Regional, Uchijima finished second in doubles alongside Dorner while finishing third in singles. In total, the senior went 5-1 in both competitions with a ranked singles win over Columbia’s No. 108 Gayathri Krishnan in the third-place match. The Tokyo, Japan native boasts a 7-2 singles and 7-4 doubles record for the fall season.
The tandem of Dorner and Uchijima won five straight matches over teams from Wagner, Temple, Penn and Princeton before ultimately falling in the championship to Fordham’s Nevena Kolarevic and Julianne Nguyen in a hard-fought 6-3, 7-5 decision. Dorner is 6-5 in doubles play this fall.
Baldi found success in both doubles and singles. Pairing with Maria Daciana Ciubotaru, the sophomore reached the doubles quarterfinals. In singles, she advanced to the quarterfinals as well. In total, Baldi went 6-2 at the event. The Greensboro, North Carolina native holds a 6-3 record in singles and a 5-2 mark in doubles for the fall campaign.
Head Coach Alexandra McIntyre enters her seventh season leading the program in 2025-26 following her winningest season at the helm a season ago. The team’s 14 wins were the most since the 2012-13 season.
