Penn State Inks Sharpshooter Brant Byers

Chambersburg, Pa. native heads to Happy Valley following two stellar seasons at Miami (Ohio)

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Peter and Ann Tombros Endowed Head Coach Mike Rhoades has announced the signing of sharp-shooting wing Brant Byers ahead of the 2026-27 Penn State men’s basketball season. Byers, a Chambersburg, Pa. native who was integral in Miami’s (Ohio) undefeated 2025-26 regular season and was the 2025 MAC Freshman of the Year, returns home to Pennsylvania with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

  • Byers will come to Penn State as a redshirt junior who spent the last three seasons at Miami (Ohio), the first of which was a redshirt season, and owns career marks of 770 points, 48.5 FG%, 40.1 3FG% and 77.6 FT% through two completed seasons.
  • Second-leading scorer on 2025-26 Redhawks team that put together an undefeated regular season, just the fifth Division I program this century to go undefeated during regular-season play. Byers’ production helped Miami break into the top-25 national rankings for the first time since 1999 and set a program record with 32 wins.
  • Averaged 14.2 points and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 39.2 percent from 3-point range during 2025-26 slate, earning second-team All-District and second-team All-MAC honors.
  • Registered 27 double-digit scoring games during redshirt sophomore season in 2025-26, including six 20-plus point efforts. Tallied 19 points and four rebounds in Miami’s NCAA Tournament first-round win over SMU.
  • Selected as the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2024-25 following strong redshirt freshman campaign in which he averaged 8.4 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 41.4 percent from 3-point range and 49.5 percent from the field, finishing third in the conference in 3-point field goal percentage.
  • Completed a redshirt year in 2023-24.
  • Two-time Academic All-MAC selection.
  • The Chambersburg, Pa. native attended the Perkiomen School, helping lead team to the 2023 Pennsylvania state championship. Won the U16 UAA championship with AAU team.
