Megan Furtney begins her second season as an assistant coach in Happy Valley for the 2025-26 campaign after being hired on May 20, 2024. This marks the first coaching role for Furtney after graduating from Big Ten foe Minnesota with a Master of Education in Sports Management in 2024.
Furtney saw freshman Jiratchaya Jiratthitinun register a team-best 73.13 stroke average, the fourth-lowest in school history, and a trio of top-10 finishes.
The Nittany Lions had their best finish relative to par at the Westbrook Invitational with a 7-under, 857), the best finish for Penn State in three years and the third-lowest 54-hole score relative to par all-time. PSU fired a 9-under, 279, during the final round marking the lowest round of the season and tied for the third-lowest 18 hole score relative to par all-time.
Penn State also finished in red figures at the PDI Intercollegiate with a 3-under, 861, score tying for the seventh-lowest 54-hole score relative to par in team history. The Nittany Lions carded red figures in all three rounds of the tournament.
During her graduate season, Furtney helped lead the Gophers to the 2024 NCAA Auburn Regional competing in all 11 tournaments this past season. Prior to her time in the Twin Cities, Furtney was a four-year member and two-year captain of the women’s golf team at Duke University where she graduated in 2023 with a degree in psychology and a minor in environmental science.
As a senior at Duke in 2022-23, Furtney helped lead the Blue Devils to second place finishes at the ACC Championship and the NCAA Regionals finishing tied for 15th and tied for 28th, individually at each event, her best two finishes of the season.
Furtney was also a four-time WGCA All-American Scholar and a four-time ACC Honor Roll Student during her time in Durham.
Furtney is a native of St. Charles, Illinois graduating from St. Charles North in 2019.
