2025 • FRESHMAN SEASON
Awards: Landed placements on the Softball America Freshman Watch List and D1Softball D100 Freshman to Watch list in the preseason.
Season: Had a solid debutant season in Happy Valley, highlighted by 42-appearance campaign that tied for the fourth-most games played in a single year in school history… Made 21 starts in her first collegiate campaign, tossing 114.0 innings while racking up a 6-10 individual record in the circle… Published a 5.89 earned run average… Led the Nittany Lions in complete games during the 2025 season, tossing a pair of complete-game shutouts… Finished the year as one of the strongest closers in college softball, logging five saves on the season to rank fifth on the Nittany Lion career leaderboard in the statistic with three years of eligibility remaining… Tossed 79 strikeouts in her inaugural season at Penn State, ranking second on the roster in the statistic.
Rankings: Finished as the Big Ten Conference statistical champion in saves while ranking 13th in all of college softball in the statistic, racking up five saves in her rookie season… Booked the sixth-most pitching appearances in the Big Ten, playing in 42 contests for the Blue & White.
vs. Duke (2/7): Made her collegiate debut and immediately impressed against the defending WCWS participant Blue Devils, tossing 6.0 innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out five in her first career start. vs. St. John’s (2/15): Marked her first collegiate victory in the circle with a complete-game shutout of the Red Storm, powering PSU to a 4-0 win while allowing just three hits with four strikeouts and one walk. vs. Southern Miss (2/22): Came through in the clutch with her first collegiate save, appearing for 3.0 innings of relief work while allowing zeroes in the hit and run columns and adding five K’s. vs. Villanova (3/2): Had a 2.1 inning relief appearance that culminated in a save, surrendering just one hit to the Wildcats while striking out three and walking none. Indiana (3/21): Picked up her first winning decision in Big Ten play after a marathon contest with the Hoosiers. Rutgers (4/4): Earned her second B1G win in her second career complete-game shutout, adding a career-best seven strikeouts while allowing just two hits. Ohio State (4/12): Earned the win in the circle for PSU’s first-ever run-rule victory over a ranked foe, throwing 4.2 innings in the five-inning affair.
HIGH SCHOOL
One of the most dominant individual performers in the history of the state of Maryland, Britton capped off her high school softball career by earning the Maryland Gatorade Player of the Year award in softball… Britton helped guide Allegany High School to a pair of Maryland Class 1A state championships in 2022 and 2024, capping off her high school career at the top in-state… She was lauded as both the Area and Region Player of the Year in her sophomore through senior seasons, also landing the Avery Bridges Memorial Award in 2022 and 2023... Britton handled her travel ball commitments with Virginia Glory under the direction of coaches Suzy Willemssen and Kevin Bedonski, participating in the organization from 2017 until the end of her youth career… Britton was chosen as the club’s captain twice in the 2023 and 2024 season... Through Virginia Glory, Britton was additionally tabbed as a final selection for USA Softball’s High-Performance Program, or HPP… Britton finished her high school softball career ranked as the No. 24 overall pitcher in the nation according to Extra Inning Softball.
PERSONAL
Abi Britton is the only child of Aaron and Heather Britton and is a native of LaVale, Maryland… Her great aunt, Janet, and uncle, Tom, both attended Penn State to earn their undergraduate degrees… Britton was an active member of the Allegany High School Student Government Association and Envirothon in addition to participating in her school’s chapter of the National Honor Society… Britton was also apart of the Future Farmers of America Program in the State of Maryland… She is currently studying biobehavioral health in the prestigious Eberly College of Science, expecting to graduate in the spring of 2028… Upon the completion of her softball career, Britton plans to begin a career in nursing. When she’s not playing softball, she enjoys reading, hiking and traveling.
