2025 • SENIOR SEASON
Awards: Garnered Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors in recognition for her work in the classroom.
Season: Set the Penn State single-season program record for pitching appearances with 48 trips to the circle in the 2025 campaign, logging 27 starts to lead the Nittany Lion roster… Paced the Blue & White in overall pitching victories with 10, finishing the year with a 10-16 individual record… Threw 128.2 innings to pace the PSU pitching staff… Mustered a single complete game over the course of her final collegiate campaign… Had her first multi-save season as a Nittany Lion, finishing the year with two and completing her Penn State career with a trio of saves to rank eighth in the statistical category all-time in Happy Valley… Finished with a season long ERA of 4.52 with a .358 opponent batting average.
Rankings: Appeared in the second-most contests in the Big Ten Conference as well as the fourth-most appearances in college softball, logging 48 games played… Finished ninth in the conference in saves with a pair… Ranked 13th in the league in terms of innings pitched, throwing 128.2 frames for the Blue & White.
vs. Texas Tech (2/7): Impressed in her first start of the 2025 campaign, working 5.0 innings with zero earned runs allowed, adding a strikeout against National Player of the Year NiJaree Canady. vs. Mississippi State (2/8): Saw 5.2 innings of relief work, yielding a pair of hits with zero earned runs allowed in addition to a pair of K’s. Rutgers (4/4): Booked a complete-game win in the series-opening battle against the Scarlet Knights, allowing one run with a season-high six strikeouts. at Maryland (4/25): Kicked off a dominant weekend against the Terrapins with a winning decision across 5.0 innings in the circle, allowing a pair of hits and a single earned run. at Maryland (4/26): Threw 4.2 frames with three earned runs allowed, helping clinch the series win over the Terps with her second winning decision of the weekend. at Maryland (4/27): Closed the Maryland series out with a save, throwing three innings with a pair of earned runs allowed and two strikeouts. Washington (5/3): Had her second save of the year less than a week removed from her first, throwing a pair of frames against the Huskies to propel PSU to a B1G win over their new West Coast rivals. B1G Tournament First Round vs. Iowa (5/7): Lifted the Nittany Lions to an opening round Big Ten Tournament win, throwing 3.2 impressive innings with five strikeouts and a single earned run allowed in the victory over Iowa.
2024 • JUNIOR SEASON
Season: Had an instant impact in her first season with the Blue & White, setting career high marks in games played (36), games started (19), complete games (three), innings pitched (102.2) and strikeouts (96)… Published an 8-8 individual record in the circle, recording a 4.57 earned run average in the process… Was one of three Penn State pitchers to pick up a save in the 2024 campaign… Allowed a mere .251 opponent batting average in her extensive outings with the Nittany Lions.
Rankings: Ranked seventh in the B1G in strikeouts per seven innings, finishing with 6.5… Finished ranked ninth in the Big Ten Conference in pitching appearances with 36… Ranked 18th in the conference in games started with 19 total.
vs. Marshall (2/9): Made her Nittany Lion debut in the season opener, throwing a pair of no-hit innings with a pair of strikeouts, also earning credit for the save. vs. Morgan State (2/24): Tossed a complete-game one-hitter, tallying a career-high 12 strikeouts in the dominant shutout effort. vs. Hofstra (3/2): Put together her second complete game of the 2024 campaign, scattering five hits with seven K’s and a single earned run. Lehigh (3/14): Had five strikeouts against one walk in 3.2 innings of work. Cornell (3/15): Tossed a complete game in the 10-1 win over the Big Red, striking out six. Bucknell (3/26): Tallied 2.1 innings of relief effort with five strikeouts. Michigan State (4/13): Threw 4.1 innings against the Spartans, holding the opponent to a single earned run in her time in the circle.
BEFORE PENN STATE
Returned home to her native Keystone State after spending the past two seasons as a pitcher with the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers... Published an effective 2023 sophomore season, mustering a 2.66 ERA on the year with an impressive 9-1 individual record… Appeared in 27 contests in 2023, making 15 starts with a pair of complete games and a shutout… Tossed 94.2 innings in 2023… Finished her sophomore season with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.36, logging 92 Ks against just 39 walks… Booked 6.8 strikeouts per seven innings, placing 11th in an ultra-competitive Sun Belt Conference... Appeared in 23 games and made 12 starts in her freshman season in 2022... Recorded a pair of saves on the year and finished with 52 strikeouts in 56.2 innings of work... Held opponents to a .244 batting average over the course of her freshman year... Tossed a pair of complete games in 2022, going the distance against Louisiana and South Alabama... Totaled six strikeouts and recorded her first collegiate shutout in an elimination game against South Alabama on April 3, 2022.

Played high school softball at Pennsylvania-powerhouse North Penn High School in Lansdale, Pennsylvania... Helped lead North Penn to three conference championships in 2018, 2019, and 2021… Guided her team to a 2021 PIAA 6A State Championship… Was named the 2021 Pennsylvania Gatorade Softball Player of the Year… Named the 2021 Pennsylvania High School Coaches Association Softball Player of the Year… Was a three-time first-team all-state selection in 2018, 2019, and 2021… Garnered MaxPreps High School All-America honors in 2021... Led Pennsylvania in strikeouts with 335 during her senior season… Posted single-season school records for lowest ERA (0.67) and shutouts (18)… Tallied 764 strikeouts over the course of her high school career… Recorded an astonishing 42-inning scoreless streak during her time at North Penn... Handled her club softball commitments through the PA Chaos program, participating in the 14U team from 2016 to 2017 before advancing to the 18U Gold squad from 2018 to 2021 under the leadership of coach Joe Spina.
PERSONAL
A native of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, Mady Volpe is the oldest child and only daughter of Jennifer and Joe Volpe… She has one younger sibling, a brother named Anthony who is three years her junior… While attending North Penn High School, Volpe was awarded as a member of the school’s honor roll in every year of her academic career... Volpe is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in labor and human resources in the Penn State College of Liberal Arts and expects to graduate in the spring of 2025... She hopes to continue her career in softball as a pitching coach upon graduation.
